Kenny: Celtic told to bury Rangers as Hoops source reveals ‘multiple January signings’ plan

Celtic must strike while the iron is hot and take their chance to steal the Scottish Premiership title from Rangers in January.

That’s according to former Leeds stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops’ title chances.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club are planning major reinforcements in January and multiple signings are likely as they plan to wrest Rangers’ crown away.

The Hoops sit four points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership after 13 games each.

However, Rangers have just lost Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa, replacing him with Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and suffered a demoralising blow with their Scottish League Cup defeat to Hibernian on Sunday.

Kenny claims the Hoops must use Van Bronckhorst’s settling-in period to mount an assault on the top of the table.

Asked about Celtic’s position in view of their plans for major January reinforcements, Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild: “At least there is a title race this year.

“Celtic were obviously nowhere near last season so it’s good that there is competition.

“Rangers have lost Gerrard and the transition to a new manager could knock them back.

“Celtic need to exploit that. Rangers will have a period of settling in.

“Celtic have to strike now, while the iron is hot, and give themselves the best chance of getting that title back.

“What an achievement that would be. I guess it depends on whether the club will give the money to the manager.

“I think January will be very important for both sides, and it could be huge for Celtic.”

Celtic, who could “comfortably” spend £32.5m in January, are next in league action against Aberdeen on 28 November.

Van Bronckhorst’s first league game in charge of Rangers is against Livingston on the same day.
