Kenny issues ‘unbelievable’ Sheffield United prediction amid ‘massive’ Wilder claim

Paddy Kenny is predicting a game with “extra spice” as Chris Wilder is set to return to Sheffield United on New Year’s Day.

The former Blades stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, wants his former side to get one over on their former boss.

Wilder’s Middlesbrough travel to Bramall Lane on 1 January looking to continue their newfound form.

Boro have won their last three games and have risen to fifth in the table.

Paul Heckingbottom’s have themselves risen to 10th in the league after a strong run of fixtures under the new boss.

Despite not playing since 20 December, Kenny is backing Sheffield United to give Boro a run for their money.

“It’s two teams in really good form,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think with Wilder coming back there will be lots of extra spice in the game. There is bound to be an unbelievable atmosphere as well.

“I know he’s still popular there but he’s moved on now. We have Heckingbottom now.

“The mission is to get those three points by turning Boro over, simple as.

“I can see it being an excellent game because both sides have done well in recent weeks.

“I wouldn’t like to call the result of that game, to be honest, Boro are on fire under Wilder.

“It will be a massive game to win for us if we want to get to the play-offs.

“There will be that extra motivation for the Sheffield United players and that’s always going to be there.

“I just think the boys will be delighted to get out there because they haven’t played for a while now.”
