Kenny slams Rangers after ‘brutal’ development in last 24 hours – ‘They don’t get it’

Paddy Kenny has slammed a recent Rangers statement and accused the club of failing to listen to its fans.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, can’t see how the issue will be resolved.

On Tuesday (22 March), Rangers released a statement regarding fans who are “intent on causing damage” to the club.

This came after the Gers’ game against Dundee (Sunday 20 March) was disrupted by fans.

Rangers fans threw tennis balls onto the pitch in protest at the club’s decision to play a friendly against Celtic in Australia this November.

Kenny insists neither side will back down anytime soon.

“That was a bit of a brutal statement. They don’t get it. This is not just a small number of fans, we saw that at the weekend,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They must have thought there was going to be some sort of backlash when this was announced.

“It’s a touch one because we know there is money involved. They just don’t need it at this point in the season.

“The club needs to listen to the fans here but they are in a really tricky spot.

“They aren’t going to back down and the fans are going to keep complaining.

“I don’t know how this gets resolved but there needs to be some give and take.”

Rangers

On 2 March, the Australian A-League confirmed Celtic will face Rangers in a mid-season friendly down under in November as part of an event billed as “Ange’s Homecoming”.

As per The Daily Record (17 March), the Gers will receive a seven-figure fine if they pull out.
