Kenny tips Rangers for league and cup glory this season after ‘£35m’ Diallo reveal – pundit

Paddy Kenny can’t wait to see Amad Diallo playing for Rangers after he joined the club on loan from Man United.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the Gers have sent a statement to Celtic with the signing.

Rangers announced on Thursday afternoon they have signed Man United’s Diallo on loan for the remainder of the season.

The winger moved to Old Trafford in a £37.2million deal 12 months ago but has had few opportunities in the first team due to the wealth of attacking talent at the club.

United are said to view a temporary spell with Giovani van Bronckhorst’s side as good for the teenager’s development.

Kenny insists Rangers have pulled off a “real coup” and claimed Diallo can help them to win the league and Scottish Cup.

“It’s really exciting, this is £35million player we are talking about,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Man United clearly rate him very highly and it’s a real coup for Rangers.

“You have to credit the club for getting this done because I’m sure it wouldn’t get done if Gerrard was there. Not with his links to Liverpool.

“It’s a statement from Rangers to say, ‘come on Celtic, come and get us’.

“It will be an interesting one to keep an eye on over the rest of the season.

“This kid could be a real future star and he could end the season with a few trophies as well.

“You would back them to win the trophies available to them after this signing.

“It’s a deal that works for everyone and credit to Rangers for pulling it off.”

Diallo has made nine appearances for Man United and has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.

His sole Man United goal came in a 1-1 draw against AC Milan in the Champions League in March 2021.
