Kevin Campbell is thrilled by ‘marvellous’ Patrick Bamford news
Leeds United are set to open talks with Patrick Bamford over a new contract – and the striker is fully deserving of improved terms, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heaped praise on the 27-year-old for his “marvellous” performances in white this season.
Bamford boats an impressive 12 goals and six assists from 22 Premier League appearances this season – no Leeds player has more goal involvements.
Football Insider revealed that negotiations with the striker’s representatives over a new contract are to begin soon.
The £10million signing from Middlesbrough is set to be offered a major pay increase as a reward for his electric form under Marcelo Bielsa this term.
When asked for his thoughts on Bamford’s effort for Leeds this season, Campbell told Football Insider: “Without a shadow of a doubt he deserves a new contract.
“I am sure Patrick Bamford hoped that he would have a season like he is having but I am not sure even he would have expected it.
“He has been marvellous this season. He is already in double figures and it looks like he is going to score a few more between now and the end of the season. It is looking good, very good.”
Bamford has less than 18 months on the four-year contract he penned upon his arrival from Boro in 2018.
His 94 career appearances for Leeds have yielded 38 goals and 12 assists.
