Midfielder given go-ahead to leave Arsenal this summer – report
By Matt Bullin
It is “increasingly likely” that midfielder Jack Wilshere will leave Arsenal this summer after he was given the green light to leave, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims the Gunners have made the 25-year-old Englishman available for transfer this summer as he enters the final year of his contract with the club.
It is said Wilshere does not feature in Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s plans for the 2017-18 campaign, and the north Londoners want to avoid a situation which could see the player leave next summer on a free.
The report states that the Gunners are open to extending the England star’s contract, but it would only be to protect his value.
Wilshere is still recuperating from a broken leg he suffered towards the end of last term, and he will link up with his club’s senior squad when they return from their pre-season tour.
However, the Mail claims first-team football may be hard to come by for him next season even with the Gunners competing in the Europa League.
This comes after the Daily Mail previously reported that Sampdoria were weighing up a £9million bid for Wilshere.
Football Insider verdict
Wilshere spent last campaign at Bournemouth on loan and he hardly pulled up any trees with his performances. Unfortunately for him it looks like his once promising Gunners career is to be cut short, after failing to recover his form after a horrific spate of injuries. With the likes of Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla on their books, the Gunners do not need Wilshere and it seems they have finally lost patience with the injury-prone midfielder.
