Kieran Maguire: Aston Villa set for £16m boost – ‘expect to see a surge’
Aston Villa can expect their matchday revenue to ‘surge’ next season after raising ticket prices for the 2023/24 campaign.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Villa’s revenues, ticket pricing and European qualification.
The Midlands side only reported matchday revenues of £16million in their 2021/22 accounts, but that figure is set to soar after Villa inflated ticket prices in consecutive years, including a 15 per cent increase this summer.
Villa’s 2021/22 matchday figures ranked them around midtable in the Premier League, while Manchester United and Tottenham both exceeded £100million.
Football Insider revealed that Villa have earned around £20million in season ticket sales this summer after selling 30,000 at increased prices.
Unai Emery’s side are also set to play regular midweek fixtures next season after qualifying for the Europa Conference League.
Maguire believes the combination of more matches and higher prices will cause a ‘surge’ in matchday revenue.
“Aston Villa will certainly have a significant increase in their matchday revenues next season,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“A combination of higher ticket prices and being in the Europa Conference League will increase the number of matches being played.
“Ultimately, matchday revenue is the number of matches, average attendance and ticket price multiplied together.

“Two of those factors have increased ahead of the 2023/24 season.
“Therefore, on the back of that we can expect to see a surge in terms of matchday revenues.“
