Kieran Maguire backs Newcastle to strike multiple deals amid ‘huge’ verdict

It is ‘essential’ for Newcastle United to expand into the American market during their pre-season tour this summer.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Magpies could look to take advantage of merchandise, commercial and sponsorship opportunities.

Newcastle are set to travel to the United States this summer to participate in the Premier League’s inaugural Summer Series.

The North East club will be joined by Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea and Fulham in America as they prepare for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

Eddie Howe will be looking to get his squad into shape as they prepare for a return to Champions League football this season, while Newcastle’s marketing department will have their hands full trying to grow the popularity of the club in America.

Maguire insists the success of football shows and documentaries has spiked interest in football in America, which will provide extra opportunities for monetisation.

I think it’s essential for all of the Premier League clubs to dip their toe into the American market,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

There has been a huge amount of interest from an investment point of view and the success of Welcome to Wrexham and Ted Lasso have spiked enthusiasm for football in America.

It’s never going to compete with traditional American sports, but there’s still a pie there of football interest.

For a club like Newcastle, the aim has to be increasing your slice of that pie and then monetising interest through merchandise, sponsorship and commercial arrangements.

That will all help the overall pot of money that Eddie Howe can subsequently use to recruit and retain talent.
