Kieran Maguire: Chelsea can exploit transfer loophole as Todd Boehly talks revealed
Chelsea could form a multi-club network in Europe to improve their recruitment of young players.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Todd Boehly’s plans to create a multi-club network with the Blues at the helm.
As reported by The Guardian, Chelsea have stepped up their interest in buying a stake in Ligue Un side Strasbourg.
Strasbourg president, Marc Keller, has held talks with Boehly over a full or partial sale.
Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin hinted at relaxing rules and regulations on multi-club ownership in March despite concerns over conflict of interest.
Maguire believes Chelsea will look to create a shared network of clubs to work their way around recruitment restrictions put in place after Brexit.
“France is an area of huge talent as far as football is concerned,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“Brexit has brought about new challenges where promising 16 and 17-year-olds can no longer be recruited and brought to the Premier League.
“The likes of Chelsea are therefore concerned about their ability to spot talents.
“Also, we have to remember that Chelsea’s player sales have exceeded those of any other club.

“So Chelsea are looking for a portfolio of players that they can develop and move on at a profit.
“A multi-club network would allow Chelsea to utilise the French market with a view to bringing them to the parent club and then selling on at a profit.“
