Kieran Maguire: Chelsea on track to bank £5m payout after US deal agreed

Chelsea are on track to earn around £5million from their pre-season schedule after partnering with Vivid Seats for their American tour.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the financial benefits of Chelsea’s trip to America.

The Blues signed up for the inaugural Premier League Summer Series and ended up lifting the trophy after topping Newcastle United, Brighton and Fulham in the pre-season tournament.

The Londoners announced last month that they had struck a deal with online marketplace Vivid Seats to become their official USA pre-season tour partner.

Vivid Seats offered premium ticket packages to view Chelsea matches, and in return were visibly represented around stadiums and matches involving Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side also faced Wrexham during their tour and are set to round up their trip with a match against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday (3 August).

Maguire believes Chelsea will earn a seven-figure fee from each of their five pre-season games.

Chelsea will be looking to earn around £1million per match from their pre-season tour,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

However, the matches with or against youth teams most likely won’t be valued the same as a senior match.

This will of course help their bank balance and partnering with an organisation such as VividSeats and trying to go for premium-priced seats will help that.

We saw during the Premier League summer series that individual seats were costing more than $100 on occasion and yet those matches attracted crowds of 60,000.

It could be very lucrative for the club even after promoters take their share.

I’m sure the club will be looking to fill in the gap between themselves and other London clubs who are generating more money from bigger and newer stadiums.
