Kieran Maguire: Chelsea strike £25m deal despite Todd Boehly ‘concerns’
Chelsea could strike a front-of-shirt deal worth £25million per year despite not qualifying for European competition this season.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively about Chelsea’s commercial targets this summer.
The Blues are looking to strike a new front-of-shirt and sleeve sponsorship deal this summer ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Chelsea were previously partnered with British telecommunications company Three, who paid the club £40million per season to appear on the front of their shirt before their deal expired this summer.
The London club are also in need of a new sleeve sponsor after crypto company Whalefin prematurely cancelled their deal just seven months after signing.
Maguire explained that commercial partners may now have ‘concerns’ over Chelsea’s chances of success under Todd Boehly after an underwhelming season under the new owner.
“Chelsea are still a global brand as far as most advertising companies are concerned so they will be looking to get maximum value from a new front-of-shirt deal,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“What is likely to happen if they sign a multi-year deal is that they will have step-up clauses to increase the value if they qualify for the Champions League.
“There will be concerns from the commercial sector towards Chelsea under Todd Boehly as it is clear that the club will have to go through growing pains to return to where they want to be.

“Having said that, there is no reason why Chelsea couldn’t strike a deal worth £25million a year while out of Europe, and then look to increase that to £35-40million once back in Europe.
“Although it may take some time to get there.“
