Kieran Maguire cites Daniel Levy as Tottenham hit by new takeover twist
Parties interested in purchasing Tottenham may now be ‘wary’ of entering talks after Joe Lewis was charged with insider trading.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the ownership structure of Tottenham is ‘messy’.
As reported by The Athletic, former Spurs owner Joe Lewis has been accused of violating securities laws through insider trading.
However, the 86-year-old transferred majority ownership of the North London club to the Lewis Family Trust in October 2022.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy also owns a 30 per cent stake in the Enic Group – who retain control of Tottenham after Lewis led their takeover of the club in 1991.
Maguire doesn’t believe Lewis’ charges will have an impact on the ownership of Tottenham but insists it will leave any potential bidders ‘wary’ of purchasing the club.
“The ownership of Spurs via Enic and Daniel Levy is a little bit messy,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Spurs are not officially up for sale but in the world of football finance, never say never.
“We wait to see whether the Joe Lewis charges will have any impact on any potential changes to the ultimate control of the club.

“There is no evidence of that at this stage, but if somebody did have a tentative interest in buying Spurs, it might have consequences.
“Interested parties will be wary of dealing with Tottenham’s hierarchy if they are not certain who has complete ownership.”
