Kieran Maguire: Daniel Levy under ‘huge pressure’ as multiple Tottenham staff quit – ‘this can seriously backfire’
Daniel Levy is under ‘huge pressure’ to agree a naming rights deal for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Levy’s negotiation tactics could ‘seriously backfire’.
Tottenham are still yet to secure a naming rights deal for their 62,850-capacity stadium.
The North London club were in talks with Google over a deal last year according to The Athletic, but nothing came to fruition and it has now been four years since the stadium was constructed.
Todd Kline was appointed the club’s chief commercial officer in 2021 after securing a £180million naming rights deal with the Miami Dolphins.
But two years into his role, the Daily Mail report that a number of long-serving Spurs staff have left the department since Kline’s arrival.
Maguire believes Levy will be pushing for as much value as possible out of the deal, but warns that it is a risky strategy from the Spurs chairman.
“I think Tottenham are under huge pressure for the naming rights deal,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“Many companies will want to read the room properly – they won’t want to commit to a multi-million-pound deal while simultaneously laying off staff.
“The crypto sector runs a major risk, so there will be extreme caution around agreeing a deal there.

“The other factor is Daniel Levy – Sir Alex Ferguson famously said it was more painful negotiating with him than his hip surgery was.
“It is indicative that Levy is pushing for as much value as possible until a deal is signed and sometimes this can seriously backfire.“
