Kieran Maguire drops Man City verdict amid CFG ‘doping’ accusation

Man City have not been stockpiling players through the City Football Group despite the accusations of La Liga president Javier Tebas.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the pros and cons of City’s multi-club network.

City are the mothership club of the City Football Group multi-club network, which now spans 13 clubs and four different continents.

La Liga president Tebas has accused Man City of ‘financial doping’ through the multi-club network – City threatened legal action but no further action was taken.

The Daily Mail published a report on 27 May that found 36 players had transferred to City in the past decade, spending a collective 127 years on the books of the club but only making a combined six starts.

Despite the accusations of ‘stockpiling’ stars, Maguire believes City do benefit from their multi-club network but not through a supply line of players.

The accusation that Man City have been stockpiling players through the City Football Group doesn’t really hold up to much scrutiny,” Maguire told Football Insider.

The reason for this is that there are hardly any players that have gone from one of the CFG-owned clubs to the Etihad itself.

Man City

City certainly are part of a much bigger vehicle that does have continuity of training facilities, methods, sports science, diet and so on.

That has benefits in theory to all the clubs involved in the multi-club model, but it does not appear to have crystalised into providing a supply line of players to City.
