Kieran Maguire drops verdict on Leeds United news- ‘it sends out a signal’

Elland Road being named as an asset of community value shows the 49ers have positive plans for Leeds United.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the new owners at Leeds are placing importance on the club’s history and heritage.

Leeds City Council confirmed last month that Elland Road has been named as an asset of community value after it was nominated by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust (LUST).

The nomination was backed by the club and the community will now be given the opportunity to match any bid to purchase the stadium.

A report by The Athletic stated that former Whites owner Andrea Radrizzani suggested Elland Road be used as security for a £26million bank loan when purchasing Italian club Sampdoria.

Maguire believes Elland Road being protected from a private sale is ‘symbolic’ and helps to protect the club’s history and culture.

Having a football stadium as an asset of community value is symbolic,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

It does create one extra barrier for anyone wanting to take advantage of real estate and the benefits that it can potentially bring to someone who wants to flip a property.

“It’s not a huge barrier, but it at least sends out a signal that the present owners do have positive, long-term plans for Elland Road.

It shows that they have placed importance on the history, heritage and culture of Leeds United.
