Kieran Maguire: Everton could have ‘extra bargaining power to get better deal’ after confirmed news
The threat of relegation could encourage external investment at Everton and their Bramley Moore Dock stadium development.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Everton’s continued search for stadium investment.
The Toffees are facing the threat of relegation this season and have also been hit with financial fair play charges by the Premier League.
Everton released their latest financial accounts, which took their losses over the last three years to £372million – well in excess of the £105million Premier League limit.
The charges could result in a points deduction for Everton and relegation would put further pressure on the board to find investment for the construction of the Bramley Moore Dock Stadium.
However, Maguire insists that relegation could actually encourage more external investment in the stadium construction as investors could be pushing for bargain prices.
“I don’t see that as being a hurdle in terms of the development of the stadium,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“The contractors won’t want to down tools as they are committed to buying materials and providing labour.
“Farhad Moshiri has said that he does have the funds himself to pay for he whole stadium but would obviously prefer external investment.
“This could actually encourage external investors as it could give them extra bargaining power to get a better deal.
“Anybody who has seen the development of the new Everton stadium can only be impressed by the progress made.

“Relegation would be a huge hiccup in terms of what will happen, but long-term funds will be available for long-term projects.
“Everton would of course have to pay extra interest on loans, but I don’t see demotion as a risk to the stadium construction.“
