Kieran Maguire: Everton have ‘more upsides’ for MSP than Tottenham amid advanced talks reveal
Investing in Everton instead of Tottenham is “risky” but has more potential upsides for New York-based MSP Sports Capital.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the two investment opportunities being considered by MSP.
Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (3 March) that MSP Sports Capital are in advanced talks to buy a 20 per cent stake in Everton.

As part of the deal, the American investors are asking for board representation at Goodison Park.
Farhad Moshiri would remain the majority shareholder of the Toffees and would use the new investment to help finalise the funding for the club’s new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.
MSP have also been linked with takeover talks with Tottenham, with this site’s sources confirming last month (27 February) that MSP’s interest in Spurs is genuine.
Maguire believes that Everton investment has plenty of potential but only if the club can crack the “extreme challenge” of Champions League qualification.
“The major difference between investing in Everton instead of Spurs it the initial capital outlay, will be far higher at Spurs,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“The risks attached are far higher at Everton until they address issues on the pitch.
“MSP will want to own a team consistently competing for European places, where substantial additional revenue lies, especially in the Champions League.
“So while Everton are the more risky investment, they are also the cheaper investment and in many ways, they have more upsides.
“But breaking into that top four and qualifying for the Champions League as a team outside of the big six has proved to be an extreme challenge.

“Other clubs have tried – West Ham with a 60,000-capacity stadium continue to struggle, Leeds United have plans to expand to 50,000 and they have not been competing in Europe.
“Aston Villa also have very ambitious owners and at this time Everton have to be judged as part of the Premier League middle classes as opposed to an elite club.“
