Kieran Maguire hits out at Richard Masters as Man City FFP date agreed

Premier League CEO Richard Masters was ‘disingenuous’ and ‘vague’ when speaking about Man City and their 115 FFP charges.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the timeline of City’s FFP case after Masters revealed a ‘date was set’.

Masters spoke in front of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee last week regarding the new charges facing Everton and Nottingham Forest as well as the ongoing case with City’s 115 FFP charges.

When asked about City’s case, he said: “There is a date set for that proceeding. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you when that is but that is progressing.”

City were charged in February 2023 after allegedly breaking financial rules over nine seasons spanning between 2009 and 2018.

Sources have told Football Insider that Man City may not learn the verdict of their 115 charges until 2026.

Maguire believes Masters purposefully evaded questions about City’s case with politicians ‘unimpressed’ by his comments.

“Richard Masters’ comments in regards to Manchester City and the charges were both disingenuous and vague,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

Given that the charges were leveled in February 2023, the least one could expect is that a broad agreement will have been made as to when the hearing will take place.

So it looks like he was simply trying to evade the treatment that he was getting from a series of highly unimpressed members of parliament while addressing them in front of the DCMS Committee.
