Kieran Maguire issues £331m Man City warning amid ‘nuclear’ Premier League threat

Sponsors will be hesitant to enter any agreements with Man City until their Premier League allegations are cleared due to the “nuclear” threats facing the club.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Man City will face “fearful” sponsors while they face the Premier League’s financial allegations.

The Premier League has filed 115 charges against City relating to financial rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.

If found guilty of the alleged offences, the reigning Premier League champions could face hefty fines, a points deduction or even full expulsion from the league.

City responded by suggesting they were “surprised” by the allegations and are looking forward to the matter being put to rest once and for all.

The Manchester club reported £331million commercial income in their latest financial report, but Maguire believes the club may now find sponsors “fearful” and “hesitant” to agree extensions or new deals.

Some sponsors may be hesitant and adopt a wait-and-see approach in relation to starting new partnerships with Man City,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

They will want to await the outcome of the commission into the alleged offences.

Sponsors may fear reputational damage by being associated with a club that has gotten into trouble.

They will also be fearful of the nuclear option which could well be expulsion from the Premier League.

If Man City are handed the toughest punishments then it’s obviously extremely hard for them to get any value from a club no longer in the Premier League.
