Kieran Maguire: Liverpool ‘in strong position to sign Kylian Mbappe’ this summer
Liverpool and Tottenham are the two Premier League clubs in a strong enough financial position to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about which top-flight clubs can afford Mbappe’s financial demands.
It has been widely reported this week that Mbappe is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer after communicating to the club that he has no desire to sign a contract extension when his deal expires at the end of the season.
Mbappe previously promised the Ligue 1 giants that he would not leave the club via a free transfer.
Real Madrid are the favourites to sign the 25-year-old forward, but Mbappe has also not ruled out a move to the Premier League.
However, signing Mbappe would come with a huge cost with Sky Sports reporting that he currently earns wages of £171million per year in Paris.
Liverpool and Spurs ahead of Premier League rivals in race to sign Mbappe
Maguire believes both Liverpool and Spurs have enough financial flexibility to compete with Real Madrid for the World Cup winner this summer.
“I think there are Premier League teams in a position to afford to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“I think Liverpool are in a strong financial position.
“Spurs are also in a great financial position because they are the best-run club in the league.
“But I think it’s essential that they qualify for Champions League football to stand a chance.

“Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League, but there’s obviously more uncertainty as far as Spurs are concerned.
“But there is the opportunity for that to be the case.“
