Kieran Maguire: Liverpool set to reach £100m landmark after record-breaking development
Liverpool are ‘desperate’ to increase their matchday revenue to £100million per season after Anfield’s capacity was expanded.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Liverpool are selling more premium hospitality tickets to increase revenue.
Liverpool were given the green light to increase capacity at Anfield to a club-record 60,000 as the opening of their new Anfield Road stand edges closer.
The Reds announced a record attendance of 59,896 during their 3-1 win over Burnley last Saturday (10 February).
That figure is set to climb as more sections of the Anfield Road stand are opened in the coming weeks.
Liverpool recorded matchday revenue of £87million in their 2021-22 accounts – a figure that trails behind the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham who both pocketed more than £100million last season.
Liverpool well placed to join Man United and Spurs in £100m club
Maguire believes Liverpool are aiming to increase revenue to £100million in anticipation of a change to the Premier League’s financial regulations.
“I think Liverpool are desperate to join the group of clubs making £100million a season in matchday revenue,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“They have been very astute in terms of selling more tickets to members rather than season ticket holders and making sure there are plenty of hospitality offerings when the stadium is expanded.

“They are clearly at the premium end of the pricing market and they know Anfield will always be sold out so it makes a lot of sense.
“If we are going to move to shadow the Uefa financial control model where revenue determines the amount you can spend on wages then it really is a sensible step.“
