Kieran Maguire makes ‘£150m’ Liverpool claim as agreement nears
Kieran Maguire has claimed Liverpool will not be phased by the proposals put forward in A New Deal for Football.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the football finance expert suggested the monetary changes are not “a major threat” to Premier League clubs’ ability to compete.
According to the Daily Mail‘s Matt Hughes (9 August), Premier League clubs are close to agreeing a new funding package for the EFL worth hundreds of millions of pounds.

The EFL have asked for more money and the end of parachute payments for approximately two years.
Maguire “understands” that the Premier League is offering “substantially less” than the EFL are asking for.
“The devil is in the detail when it comes to the New Deal for Football,” he told Football Insider.
“The EFL wants 25 per cent of the join TV deal. My understanding is what is on offer from the Premier League is substantially less than that.
“It will not hit clubs such as Liverpool. The Premier League money is very generous for a club like Liverpool who finish in the top four regularly. The receive something in the region of £150million-a-year.

“If the Premier League gives away another £100million to the EFL it is £5million per club. That is the equivalent of two positions in the Premier League.
“In an ideal world Liverpool would not want to give that money away but they will not see it as a major threat to their competitiveness moving forwards.”
