Kieran Maguire makes £400m Man City prediction after record-breaking reveal

Man City will be the first Premier League team to reach a wage bill of over £400million per season.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the predicted rise in City’s wages this season.

Football Insider sources revealed on Thursday (18 May) that City’s wage bill is on course to reach over £385million if they win the treble this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are two games away from winning a historic treble, with the Manchester club in the final of the FA Cup and Champions League after wrapping up the Premier League title last week.

City’s squad is set to earn over £20million in bonuses if they win the Champions League, while domestic success in the league and FA Cup will earn players £15million in bonus payments.

The £35million payout is expected to take City’s wages to around £385million – a figure that eclipses the £384million record set by rivals Man United in 2021/22.

I expect Manchester City to be the first club to hit a wage bill of £400million,” Maguire told Football Insider.

On top of that, there is scope for that figure to grow even further.

“I wouldn’t say that the sky is the limit, but increased revenue certainly provides room for growth.

I don’t think we’re going to have the first £500million wage bill for at least another five or six years.

But it is on track to happen – the revenues of clubs have increased by 2800 per cent since the start of hte Premier League, while wages have increased by 3400 per cent.

There is a correlation between revenue as the driving force for increased wages and I anticipate that to continue.
