Kieran Maguire makes Chelsea claim that’s gone ‘under the radar’ after record-breaking twist
Chelsea are ahead of all of their Premier League rivals when it comes to generating revenue from player sales.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the Blues’ record-breaking sales figures this summer.
The London club have made headlines this summer because their spending under new owner Todd Boehly exceeded £1billion after just three transfer windows.

However, Chelsea generated a record-breaking £295million from sales and loan fees this summer – a record-breaking amount for one club in a single window.
The Blues’ ability to offload players for huge fees has helped them to balance their books and sustain their spending in accordance with Financial Fair Play regulations.
Maguire explains that Chelsea’s transfer model when it comes to generating revenue from player sales is ‘second to none’ in the Premier League.
“I think Chelsea have gone under the radar with regards to their their trading model,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“All of the focus has been on one metric, which is the amount spent on player purchases.
“But if you take a look at the figures in terms of player sales, Chelsea have generated around four or five times as much income over the course of the last decade as the likes of Manchester United.
“They are hundreds of millions of pounds ahead of every other club in the Premier League when it comes to player sales.
“That is a testament to the quality of their academy and ability to get maximum value from players such as Hazard and Oscar and Ramirez, who people forget about.

“Football is a very short-term industry and there is just the focus on a single window.
“But on a long-term basis, Chelsea’s player trading model actually is second to none in terms of revenue generation.“
