Kieran Maguire makes ‘frightening’ Man City claim amid record-breaking £52m reveal

Man City will view the £52million spent on agent fees in 2022/23 as money well spent as it helped them sign ‘frightening’ Erling Haaland.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the Premier League champions spending record figures on agent fees.

Football Insider sources revealed last Monday (3 April) that City paid £51.6million in agent fees in 2022/23 – the highest figure since Premier League records began.

Overall, Premier League clubs shelled out a record £318.2m in agent fees, with City topping the list.

Pep Guardiola’s side signed Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Manuel Akanji and Sergio Gomez throughout the season.

It was reported by The Athletic in May that City paid £34million in agent fees towards Haaland’s advisors after triggering his £51million release clause at Borussia Dortmund.

Maguire believes that City will be ‘more than happy’ to continue paying large agent fees if it means they can keep bringing world-class players to the Etihad Stadium.

While Man City did spend £52m on agents in the last 12 months, they managed to secure the services of Erling Haaland who is the most dynamic and frightening footballer in the country,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean FIsher.

“Therefore, they will see that as money well spent, especially as his buyout fee from Borussia Dortmund was relatively low, so that will offset the agent fees.

Man City

Going forward, City view football agents as stakeholders in the game just like other parties.

They will be more than happy to negotiate with them if it helps them attract talent and keep them at the Etihad Stadium.
