Kieran Maguire makes ‘huge’ Qatar claim as Man United news confirmed

The Qatar takeover bid at Man United may have been a PR stunt after it was revealed that no proof of funding was provided by Sheikh Jassim.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that it is a ‘huge red flag’ that no proof of funding was provided for Qatar’s takeover bid.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe eventually came out on top of United’s takeover race after the Glazer family put the club up for sale in November 2022.

The British billionaire faced competition from Sheikh Jassim’s Qatar bid, but United’s SEC filings in January revealed that no proof of funding was ever provided for their reported takeover bid.

Maguire believes the Qatar bid may have been a PR stunt as Sheikh Jassim was ‘practically non-existent ‘ before his United bid emerged.

“The Sheikh Jasim offer becomes more curious,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

Somebody who had a practically non-existent social media profile all of a sudden was about to bid for the biggest football brand on the planet.

But as quickly as he appeared from nowhere, he seemed to disappear, so it could have been a PR stunt.

“The fact that there was no proof of funds given to Manchester United is a huge red flag.

While there was clearly challenges and complications with regards to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in the club, at least he was present throughout and wanted to move the club forwards.
