Kieran Maguire makes ‘incredible’ Newcastle United claim with £30m boost imminent

Newcastle United are set for an ‘incredible’ increase in commercial revenue in the 2023/24 season.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the financial boost to Newcastle after qualifying for Europe.

The Magpies confirmed their return to the Champions League for the first time in over 20 years after finishing fourth in the Premier League.

The Tyneside club recorded a turnover of £180million in the 2021/22 year – a significant increase on the £140million turnover from the year prior.

That figure is expected to soar next year with Newcastle taking advantage of their Saudi Arabian takeover to strike new commercial deals, partnered with prize money for their league finish and European qualification.

Maguire predicts the Champions League will be worth a minimum of £30million to Newcastle next season.

“The new FFP regulations will be very important to Newcastle United,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

They recorded £180million in revenue in 2021/22, and I think we’ll be looking at an incredible increase in commercial revenue.

For Newcastle to be generating 10 per cent of the commercial revenue of Manchester City is an indictment of the Mike Ashley years.

I wouldn’t expect Newcastle to be anywhere near City, but less than 10 per cent is pretty damning.

“They will have a substantial increase in merit fees after finishing fourth, and the Champions League itself will be worth a minimum of £30million.

Plus they’re starting to accrue 10-year coefficient points as well, so it’s a great starting point for them and they will continue to grow in 2024/25.
