Kieran Maguire makes intriguing Liverpool-FSG claim – ‘they fear a leak…’
Fenway Sports Group will be cautious about causing more friction between themselves and Liverpool fans and therefore will distance themselves from the new Super League proposals.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about FSG’s stance on the new Super League plans.
Liverpool were one of six Premier League clubs involved in the initial Super League plans back in April 2021, but pulled out following backlash from fans and pundits.

Super League organisers A22 returned this month (10 February) with a new proposal that includes up to 80 teams in a multidivisional format.
The Telegraph reported in December that a new independent regulator in English football will be granted the power to stop clubs from joining breakaway leagues, and Premier League sides are yet to comment on the new Super League proposals.
Maguire believes Liverpool will adopt a “wait-and-see” approach to the new proposals in order to avoid upsetting their fanbase further.
“I think Liverpool will have been very careful in relation to any communication with the Super League and A22,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“They will fear a leak in the press given that FSG and John Henry were closely connected with the initial Super League plans – this would reflect very poorly on them.
“The relationship between them and Liverpool fans is already becoming strained and this would only cause more friction.

“Therefore I expect Liverpool to adopt a wait-and-see approach with the Super League.
“They’ll let other clubs take the initiative and then choose their move when they consider it appropriate.“
