Kieran Maguire: Man City set sights on ‘minimum’ £150m payout
Man City will earn a ‘minimum’ of £150milllion from prize money and sponsors if they win the Champions League this season.
That is the calculations of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the financial rewards awaiting City in Europe this season.
City find themselves once again chasing a club-first Champions League title this season, with a semi-final clash against Real Madrid on the horizon.
European success would also result in a significant financial boost, with the Champions League handing out a pool of £531million between the 32 competing clubs.
The distribution of that prize pool is based on Uefa’s co-efficient algorithm that ranks their European performance over a 10-year period – City currently sit eighth in the 10-year table.
Maguire states that City won’t earn quite as much as Madrid for their success last year, but insists the Premier League giants are still on track to earn £150million if they win the tournament.
“Real Madrid earned £110m from winning the Champions League in 2022,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“Man City’s Uefa co-efficient isn’t as high as Real Madrid’s, but it is still in the top bracket.
“Therefore, City will earn a similar amount if they win the competition this year.
“They have hosted six European home games at the Etihad Stadium and if they win the Champions League they will also get bonuses from sponsors and qualify for the European Super Cup which provides more opportunity for revenue.

“Altogether, we’re looking at a minimum of £150million if City win the Champions League this season.
“They’ve already banked a large proportion of that by reaching the semi-finals, but they’ll be eager to keep pushing for both financial and footballing reasons.“
