Kieran Maguire: Man United could snatch Liverpool buyer away amid ‘unlimited funds’ claim
Kieran Maguire has suggested an investment in Man United is more “attractive” than Liverpool despite the Merseysiders being more “oven-ready” for a potential takeover.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the football finance guru insisted he would plump for the Old Trafford club if he was a potential buyer with “unlimited funds”.
Man United confirmed earlier via club media last week (22 November) that the Glazer Family are now exploring a possible sale of the club.

Meanwhile, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group recently issued a statement (7 November) confirming that they are open to selling the Anfield club and are exploring a deal with major US banks.
The Merseysiders have recently enjoyed more success than their north-west rivals despite the Old Trafford club spending around £280million more on transfers over the past five seasons (as per Transfermarkt).
Maguire suggested a big spend will need to be undertaken at Man United to bring their stadium and player recruitment capabilities on par with Liverpool.
He told Football Insider’s finance & governance correspondent Adam Williams: “I think it’s fair to say that Liverpool are more oven-ready.
“They’ve made commitments to expanding Anfield, so the infrastructure spend will be much lower for a new buyer.
“It could also be argued that they are more successful and have a more nuanced model in terms of player and talent recruitment than exists at Man United.
“Putting all of that in place at United would mean an additional financial burden.
“At the same time, it’s fair to say that Old Trafford is a bigger ground – and they do have a bigger fanbase globally.

“If I had unlimited funds, I would be more attracted to Man United.
“It all depends on what an investor would want that ultimate spend to be. That would drive the decision.”
