Kieran Maguire: Newcastle United now under ‘great scrutiny’ after Man City scandal twist
Newcastle United are under “great scrutiny” following the financial allegations against Man City and are doing the right thing by being transparent with their accounts.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the commercial strategy in play at St James’ Park.
The Premier League announced earlier this month (5 February) that they are filing 115 charges against City to an independent commission.

The reigning Premier League champions could face severe financial and sporting sanctions should City be found guilty of the alleged offences.
City boast around 70 per cent of the Premier League’s related-party deals – a strategy Newcastle have also used since their Saudi Arabia-backed takeover.
But Football Insider sources revealed on 7 February that Newcastle are putting plans in place to avoid the same alleged pitfalls that led to Man City being charged.
Maguire hailed the precautionary approach from the Magpies and insisted that it will avoid eyebrows being raised at their commercial partnerships.
“Newcastle are fully aware that they are under great scrutiny,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“A variety of parties are keeping a very close eye and therefore they are doing the right thing by establishing whether or not to get involved in individual deals at values that could raise eyebrows.

“Their approach is – as they say on Tyneside – canny.
“It shows that they have a long-term strategy of getting as far as they can as fast as they can while avoiding any attention that may come from the nature of the deals they sign with commercial partners.“
