Kieran Maguire: Nottingham Forest are facing ‘points deduction’ after what I’ve just heard
Nottingham Forest will not escape with a ‘significant fine’ if they are found guilty of breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that a points deduction is the ‘most logical conclusion’.
Forest and Everton were both charged with breaching the Premier League’s PSR last week having allegedly exceeded the allowable losses for a top-flight club.
Due to their participation in the Championship over the past three years, Forest were allowed to lose £61million over a three-year rolling period.
Maguire previously told Football Insider that Forest will try to backdate Brennan Johnson’s £48million sale to Tottenham in the summer to defend their charges.
Maguire believes a points deduction is the only suitable punishment for Forest if their Johnson defence doesn’t work as fines are ‘no consequence to billionaire owners’.
“Forest have been charged by the Premier League and in theory, they are innocent until proven otherwise,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“It has been said that the club acknowledged that they exceeded the limits and are looking for clemency from the commission in relation to the Brennan Johnson sale.

“If that is not given a sympathetic hearing, then based on the comments I’ve just heard made by Richard Masters at the DCMS committee, the most logical conclusion is a points deduction.
“The consensus appears to be that significant fines are of no consequence to clubs with billionaire owners who see financial costs as simply a cost of doing business and therefore disregard them.“
