Kieran Maguire: Omar Berrada backed to fix ‘frat party’ mentality at Man United

It is ‘absolutely essential’ that new CEO Omar Berrada addresses club culture and the ‘lack of professionalism’ at Man United.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that United has been viewed as a ‘frat party’ when it comes to making executive decisions.

The Red Devils announced last Saturday (20 January) that former Man City chief Berrada has joined the club as the new Chief Executive following Richard Arnold’s exit.

It marks the first major behind-the-scenes appointment made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS following his 25 percent takeover of the club in December.

As revealed by Football Insider, United are continuing their senior staff overhaul with three new marquee arrivals expected under INEOS.

Maguire believes Berrada will bring a ‘football culture’ to United that was absent under Ed Woodward and Arnold.

The success of any business, football club or otherwise, comes down to three elements – resources, opportunities and quality decision-making,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

United have an abundance of resources and could qualify for the Champions League, but struggle with decision-making.

That’s why Apple is a success and Nokia isn’t – it’s why Facebook was and MySpace died.

I think it’s absolutely essential at Manchester United that the culture of the club is addressed.

It was viewed by some people as too much of a frat party at times and there was a lack of professionalism being seen.

You only have to look at the handling of Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, the Super League and Project Big Picture to know that all were handled extremely poorly by the club.

“There’s an opportunity now for Omar Berrada to come in as a dedicated football person which is different to the cases of Ed Woodward and Richard Arnold.

He has greater familiarity with football culture and also greater familiarity with a winning culture.
