Kieran Maguire raises Man United ‘suspicion’ about record-breaking £750m deal

Man United will struggle to increase the value of their £750million Adidas manufacturer deal once it expires.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that there is a ‘natural ceiling’ for kit manufacturer deals.

Adidas signed a record-breaking £750million deal with Man United to replace Nike as their kit manufacturer in 2015, with the deal set to run until 2025.

As revealed by Football Insider last Friday (26 May), the deal’s value per season was set to drop from £75million to £52.5million if they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

With just two years remaining on the deal, the Red Devils will be considering all options for a new manufacturer deal in 2025.

Their current agreement remains the highest-paying Premier League deal eight years into their contract, with rivals Man City in second place with their £65million-per-season Puma deal.

Maguire has a ‘suspicion’ that no manufacturer will be willing to pay more than the £75million per season that Adidas is paying the Manchester club.

There has to be a natural ceiling in terms of the value of football kit deals,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

We have seen prices rise significantly in the sport over the tenure of the Adidas 10-year agreement with Man United.

They will be aware of the volumes of merchandise being sold and I have a suspicion that whoever signs the next deal won’t be in a position to pay much more.

There is an economic squeeze around the world and more and more fans are becoming increasingly resistant to price rises.
