Kieran Maguire raises ‘suspicion’ at £75m Newcastle United reveal – ‘huge’
Newcastle United will have a transfer budget higher than £75million but they are trying to dampen the expectations of fans and selling clubs.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the spending power of Newcastle United this summer.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Eddie Howe and his recruitment team have been told that they have a £75million transfer budget this summer.
The report states that the Tyneside club are wary of Financial Fair Play limitations and will only increase their budget through player sales.
But Newcastle recently signed a £25million-per-season front-of-shirt deal with Sela and are set to be handed a huge financial boost from Champions League qualification.
Therefore, Maguire suspects that Newcastle will have a much larger budget but are intentionally lowering expectations to avoid overpaying for players this summer.
“Newcastle’s budget will have been agreed between Dan Ashworth, Eddie Howe and Amanda Staveley,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“The club have just signed a £25million front-of-shirt deal with Sela and are guaranteed at least £40-50million from Champions League participation.
“So I expect their budget to be significantly higher than £75million.

“I have a suspicion that the rumour being put out is intentional to dampen the expectations of fans and also those clubs trying to sell to Newcastle to ensure the club is not subject to inflated asking prices.
“Overpaying for players at this stage would have a huge impact on their ability to spend in future windows.“
