Kieran Maguire: Rangers set for £10m+ windfall as commercial team ‘working overtime’

Rangers can add a “good six-figure fee” to their annual £10million commercial earnings with their latest sponsorship deal.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Scottish champions’ new back-of-shirt partnership.

The club announced on 23 October that they had penned a two-year contract with non-fungible token Sportemon Go.

SGO will lay on fan engagement activities and create collectable digital products across the arrangement’s life span.

In an accompanying statement, Rangers wrote that the deal would generate “significant commercial investment”.

The branding of 32Red and Tomket Tyres already adorns the Ibrox outfit’s 2021-22 matchday kit.

Commercial was Rangers’ third-biggest income source over the last financial year, behind only matchday takings and Uefa prize money.

Maguire claims that Rangers are right to zero in on the hunt for lucrative new commercial revenue streams.

“I think we are probably talking a good six-figure deal here,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Rangers’ commercial department appears to be very active in trying to improve in this particular area.

“Their commercial income is worth around about £10m per year. There is room for growth and Rangers are working overtime to address that.

“Matchday is fixed because you only have so many seats to sell. Broadcast income meanwhile is arranged centrally by the SFA and Uefa.

“Ultimately, it is the only growth opportunity where the club has flexibility and latitude. It makes sense to target it.”
