Kieran Maguire reveals behind-the-scenes Ibrox ‘worries’ amid Rangers boardroom twist

There are ‘worries’ in the Rangers boardroom over the appointment of James Bisgrove as CEO.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the boardroom changes at Ibrox.

Bisgrove has been promoted to the role of chief executive at Rangers after impressing in his role as the club’s commercial and marketing director.

He is set to move up to CEO on July 31 ahead of the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

Rangers reported a record turnover of £86.8million in their latest accounts release for the financial year ending in June 2022.

Rangers recorded commercial revenue of £8million in 2018, but that figure has soared to just under £29million during Bisgrove’s tenure, highlighting his impact at the Glasgow giants.

But Bisgrove has also seen a few of his commercial deals fail, with Rangers set to endure a ‘messy’ £10million legal battle after Elite Sportswear decided to proceed with their court case against the Scottish club.

“James Bisgrove knows the inner workings of Rangers but as Chief Executive, he will have his work cut out for him,” Maguire told Football Insider.

He’ll be tasked with keeping up with the expectations of a fanbase who have seen their club slip further and further behind Celtic both on and off the pitch in the last few years.

He will also have to deal with the boardroom and ownership issues behind-the-scenes at the club.

He will be seen as a safe pair of hands as he does have experience which can benefit the club.

Previously he has helped to accelerate Rangers’ commercial income, but there are still worries over how a number of those deals have resulted in legal issues.
