Kieran Maguire reveals ‘eight-figure’ Leeds United clauses – club will bank £100m

Leeds United will pay out an ‘eight-figure’ fee in bonuses if promoted but will also bank £100million in broadcasting revenue.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Yorkshire club also paid out eight-figure bonuses when they were promoted in 2020.

Daniel Farke’s side climbed into the automatic promotion spots in the Championship last week after their 4-0 win over Swansea City.

The Whites are still nine points adrift from league leaders Leicester City but are now in a strong position to return to the Premier League after their relegation last season.

As revealed by Football Insider, promotion this season will trigger first-team contract bonuses worth as much as £15million.

Leeds can pay off contract bonuses with £100m promotion payout

Maguire explained that Leeds will have no problem affording the bonus payments as promotion would bank them £100million in broadcast payments.

Yes, if Leeds United are promoted back to the Premier League this season then I would expect there to be an eight-figure sum in terms of bonuses,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

That was certainly around the amount that they paid out when they were last promoted.

“But given that promotion is going to increase their broadcast revenues from £40million to £100million – it is certainly something the club can afford.

So as far as Leeds United fans are concerned, it’s a price worth paying.

The squad will also have automatic step-ups in their contracts that increase their wages as they become Premier League players instead of Championship players.
