Kieran Maguire reveals new Liverpool expansion deadline with £750,000 lost per match
The Anfield expansion won’t be complete until 2024 and Liverpool are set to lose £750,000 per match in the meantime.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the delays to Liverpool’s stadium project.
Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan addressed the stadium situation this week, adding that all work on the project has halted after constructors Buckingham Group filed a notice of administration.
The Reds are set to expand the capacity of Anfield to 61,000 once all work is completed, but the construction means Liverpool have been forced to run a reduced capacity of under 50,000 for home matches so far this season.
Liverpool set a deadline of October for the stand to be completed and open, but all work halting means more delays are expected.
Maguire revealed just how much Liverpool are losing by reducing capacity and added that construction will likely continue on into the new year.
“The Liverpool board have managed the Anfield expansion project extremely professionally,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“With what has happened with the construction company and administration, it will cause a gnashing of teeth.
“Liverpool have kept their side of the bargain very professionally and as a result they will be very disappointed and frustrated.

“It is costing them in the range of £750,000 per match in terms of lost revenue, potentially more for European fixtures.
“So they will be anxiously waiting for some sort of progress to be made with regard to the Buckingham Group, but I suspect we will be looking at 2024 before being able to operate at full capacity of 61,000.“
