Kieran Maguire reveals Newcastle United FFP stance amid ‘toxic’ Mike Ashley claim
Newcastle United are on track to comply with Uefa’s new Financial Fair Play rules this season.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Newcastle’s opportunities to increase revenue under their new owners.
The Tyneside club will have to adapt to Uefa’s new financial regulations after they replaced the old Financial Fair Play rules with the new financial sustainability model.
Previously, Uefa limited teams to losing £25million over a three-year period, while the new financial sustainability rules introduced in June 2022 implemented a wage cap based on the club’s revenue.
Clubs will be restricted to spending 70 per cent of their revenues on player and coach wages, transfers, and agent fees by 2025/26.
Football Insider sources revealed in March that the Premier League and EFL are also finalising details of a new FFP system that will affect Newcastle United.
Maguire has backed Newcastle to strike more commercial deals this year and improve their revenues significantly after ridding the club of ‘toxic’ Mike Ashley.
“Newcastle should be in a position to comply with Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rules,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“Especially as we are now transitioning between a break-even model to a soft-wage cap.
“There are opportunities for Newcastle to significantly increase their revenues given the popularity of the club in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“Also, Newcastle are no longer weighed down by Mike Ashley’s toxic brand.
“When Ashley was owner, the club struggled to sell commercial deals as they were likely to be boycotted by Newcastle fans given the deterioration of the relationship between the fanbases and the club owner.“
