Kieran Maguire reveals Nottingham Forest ‘danger’ as legal threat looms

Nottingham Forest are in danger of suffering ‘reputational damage’ after reports emerged of players being unpaid.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that players and agents may now be hesitant to work with the Nottingham club in the future.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Forest owes millions to players after members of the squad were left with unpaid bonuses from last season.

Players that left this summer with bonuses for surviving relegation have reportedly not been paid, while agents have also threatened legal action over unpaid commissions for transfers.

Steve Cooper’s side signed 30 players across both windows last season, while this summer seven players have already left the club on a free transfer.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (3 August) that Forest will face legal action if players and agents aren’t paid by the end of August.

“There will be a few eyebrows raised from this story emerging from Nottingham Forest that players have had contracts effectively moved on and unhappy agents,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

They are clearly trying to keep the first-team squad happy.

But there is now a danger of reputational damage this summer when it comes to trying to recruit players.

Players are now aware that if things don’t work out they may have problems related to bonuses in their contracts.

Agents may also now be hesitant to work with the club so it may be a hollow victory if it has gone down this particular route.
