Kieran Maguire reveals the ‘expected result’ in Nottingham Forest points deduction case
Nottingham Forest lawyer Nick De Marco KC will need a late comeback to prevent a points deduction this season.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest’s law team is “very, very good” but they are currently “2-0 down”.
Forest were charged with breaching Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules after publishing their 2022-23 accounts.
They have allegedly exceeded their £61million allowable losses and could face a points deduction if found guilty by an independent panel.
As reported by The Telegraph, Nottingham Forest have enlisted leading sports lawyer Nick De Marco to defend their case.
It is understood that De Marco has established an impressive record dealing with football finance cases – especially with Financial Fair Play.
Nottingham Forest are currently losing financial case – points deduction expected
Maguire revealed that his calculations showed that Forest had a £35million “shootout” to avoid excessive losses.
“I think Forest are effectively 2-0 down going into injury time,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“But it’s well known that they’ve got a very, very good KC representing them and it’s going to take an injury-time hat-trick to overturn the expected result.
“The expected result at the moment is a deduction.
“Nobody knows the degree of Forest’s overspend, but from the figures I did for their two seasons in the Championship, Forest were right at the limit in terms of their budget for their first season in the Premier League.

“Therefore, there was no positive overhang from their two seasons in the Championship.
“Effectively, they had a one-season £35million shootout to try and avoid excessive losses.“
