Kieran Maguire savages ‘narcissistic megalomaniac’ in ‘staggering’ Man City twist

Comments made towards Man City by Uefa chief Aleksander Ceferin were ‘staggeringly unprofessional’ and indicative of a ‘megalomaniac’.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Ceferin’s comments about City’s financial breaches.

As reported by Sky Sports, Ceferin claims Uefa ‘knew they were right’ about City’s financial breaches despite the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturning their suspension.

City were charged with breaching Financial Fair Play rules by Uefa and subsequently banned from the Champions League for two years.

The decision was overturned after appeal but City now face 115 financial charges from the Premier League with CEO Richard Masters claiming a trial date has been set.

Maguire believes Ceferin’s comments effectively accused City of being guilty before their independent hearing has even begun.

“I thought it was staggeringly unprofessional of Ceferin,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

It was indicative of a narcissistic megalomaniac because he’s also trying at present to effectively overturn the length of period where he can be head of Uefa.

To effectively accuse one party of being guilty or innocent before the charges have been heard by the appropriate authorities is Trumpian and it’s disappointing.

But it does provide further evidence and indication that those at the top of football administration, both at Uefa and Fifa are more concerned about preserving their own power and influence over the game than perhaps they have over the betterment of the game as a whole.
