Kieran Maguire: Sheikh Mansour could ‘walk away’ from Man City amid ‘conspiracy’ claim
Man City owner Sheikh Mansour could walk away from the club if he deems the Premier League’s financial allegations a “conspiracy”.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the two “extreme” options open to City’s owner.
The Premier League filed 115 charges of financial breaches against City earlier this month after a four-year investigation into the reigning Premier League champions.

City could face severe financial punishment or even expulsion from the Premier League if found guilty of the offences.
Such punishments would not only affect City but could have a broader effect on clubs tied to the multi-club ownership model of the City Football Group.
The network currently consists of 11 separate teams, with Bolivian club Club Bolivar the latest to join the network after becoming a partner club in January 2021.
“I think there are two potential outcomes for Man City and the City Football Group,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“Either Sheikh Mansour insists he will return Manchester City to the Premier League and therefore CFG will offer full support to its network as City are the mothership.
“The alternative is that he claims there’s a conspiracy in football against him and City.
“He may feel victimised because you don’t have to dig very deep to find many other clubs involved in unusual transactions and inconsistencies in terms of what we see in their accounts.
“And yet nobody else has been charged.
“The six clubs that were involved in the Super League have effectively been given a clear pass to carry on as before.

“He therefore may decide that football’s not for him and walk away – they are the two extreme options
“I suspect he’d probably want to go down the former route just to prove that the positive impact that he’s made on Manchester City can be rectified.“
