Kieran Maguire shreds chiefs amid ‘chaos’ and ‘carnage’ for Liverpool fans
Uefa should have taken responsibility sooner for the “chaos” and “carnage” caused to Liverpool fans at last year’s Champions League final.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the independent report carried out on the events in Paris.
Last year’s Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid was overshadowed by a number of events outside the stadium that saw fans and police clash.

The game was scheduled to take place at the Stade de France in Paris after it was stripped from Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.
An independent report on the events surrounding the game was carried out, and it was revealed on February 14 that the review found UEFA and French authorities to be at fault.
UEFA have apologised to Liverpool supporters and insist that “a special refund scheme for fans” will be put in place.
Maguire insists that Uefa need to learn from their mistakes and not “wash its hands of any responsibility” in future events.
“It’s taken time, too much time, for Uefa to take some responsibility in respect of the chaos and potential carnage that occurred to Liverpool fans in the Uefa Champions League final last year,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“But at least there does seem to be some progress going forward.
“Uefa has to realise that it can’t just wash its hands of any responsibility and effectively delegate that to individual country’s police forces.

“Especially if they don’t have much recent history of having to deal with matches of this magnitude.
“The surrounding areas of the stadium which were imperfect for fans to get to the ground also come under Uefa responsibility.“
