Kieran Maguire slams ‘foolish’ Premier League chief as Man City footage emerges
Premier League CEO Richard Masters was made to look ‘foolish’ by Man City after their title triumph.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the irony of Masters awarding medals to a club his institution has charged with FFP breaches.
City won their third Premier League title in a row last Sunday (21 May) after Arsenal failed to beat Nottingham Forest.
Pep Guardiola’s squad were awarded their winners’ medals after their 1-0 win over Chelsea, with Masters present to hand out silverware to City’s players and staff.
The Premier League charged City with 115 financial breaches back in February, with an investigation ongoing to determine whether the Manchester club broke Financial Fair Play rules.
Maguire believes Masters looked ‘very silly’ handing out medals given that his institution has accused City of breaking the rules.
“The rather strange decision by the Premier League to charge one of its own members with 115 charges has come back to bite the institution,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“It appears to have galvanised Man City’s on-pitch performances.
“Richard Masters therefore looked very silly handing out medals for the Premier League title when many fans and clubs will be lobbying for City to face a points deduction.

“Or even in the worst-case scenario, City could have those medals taken away and the titles rescinded.
“Masters could end up looking even more foolish than when he was sitting in front of a panel of MPs talking about his opposition to a new regulator in football.“
