Kieran Maguire slams Tottenham ‘transfer failure’ after source’s £624m reveal

The £624million value of the Tottenham squad has to be viewed with doubt because of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the increase in Tottenham’s squad value has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Football Insider learned from new data revealed that Tottenham could theoretically sell their squad for £623.9million despite only paying £342.4 for their players.

It ranked Spurs second in terms of growing the value of their squad, with only Bayern Munich faring better than them in Europe.

Much of Tottenham’s squad value derives from Kane, who graduated from the club’s academy and is now valued north of £100million.

Man City attempted to sign the Tottenham striker for a nine-figure fee in 2021 but saw their £100million bid rejected by the North London club.

Maguire believes the value of Son and Kane inflates the overall value of Spurs’ squad and glosses over some of their ‘transfer failure’.

Spurs do have a successful trading model but at the same time, they have been buying players more than they have been selling in recent years,” Maguire told Football Insider.

Certainly, the value of their overall squad has increased but that is partly down to the Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son effect.

There are not many others that they have signed that have increased in value.

Therefore, the inflated figures have to be viewed with some doubt as they perhaps gloss over some of their transfer failure in recent seasons.
