Kieran Maguire: Steve Parish role at Crystal Palace now at risk

New owners at Crystal Palace would want to control day-to-day decision-making and could therefore part ways with chief executive Steve Parish.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Parish’s role at Selhurst Park under new owners.

Parish first joined Palace in 2010 and currently owns a 10 percent share in the Eagles – he also holds significant power within the Premier League as the head of the ‘other 13 clubs’.

As reported by The Independent, Eagles Football Holding is considering selling their 45 percent stake in the London club.

Maguire previously told Football Insider that Palace will be valued at £250million by chairman John Textor.

Textor, chairman of Eagles Football Holding, has previously fallen out with Parish as per The Guardian.

Maguire believes new owners may agree to keep Parish as CEO, although they would require a ‘very good relationship’.

Steve Parish should be applauded for his initial purchase of Crystal Palace,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

He has turned it into a club which has had a stable relationship in the Premier League, which is an achievement for a small club.

Given that he’s been a lifelong fan, I’m sure he would want to carry on his role as chief executive, which also comes with a very handsome salary.

“But a lot would depend on the views of any prospective owner because if they’re paying out the big bucks to control the club, then they want control of day-to-day decision-making.

And that means there’d have to be a very good relationship with whoever is the chairman or chief executive.

This is something which, as we’ve seen with Manchester United, can be arranged if all parties are willing to make some compromises.
