Kieran Maguire suggests Man United delaying new signings amid ‘£150m’ takeover twist

Man United will still be able to complete transfers during the takeover saga but could delay deals until the new owner arrives.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that United may hold off on transfers until given a new budget by either Sheikh Jassim or Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The Red Devils are yet to complete a signing this summer despite being heavily linked to the likes of Mason Mount and Andre Onana.

The Manchester giants are still waiting to hear the outcome of their takeover saga, with the Glazer family still waiting to choose either Jassim or Ratcliffe as a preferred bidder.

Maguire believes United will be working towards deals during the takeover saga, but could wait to discover their new budget before signing off on any summer moves.

Manchester United will still be able to trade in the market this summer despite the takeover saga,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

The activities at a strategic and recruitment level are independent of the acquisition of the club itself.

What will have happened is that Joel and Avram Glazer will have agreed a player budget with Richard Arnold.

“They will be in contact with managers and coaches at an operational level, and they will be still going ahead on deals now.

It could be that that budget is around £120-£150million.

“Whatever it happens to be, the only issue is if the new owners really wanted to double that budget.

Does that therefore mean that United hold fire over the course of the summer and delay some of their purchases until January 2024?

“If one of the bidders is given a ‘preferred bidder status’ by the Glazers and really wants to splash out as far as the transfer market is concerned then that could cause delays, but other than that, I think it will be business as normal.
