Kieran Maguire suggests Matthew Benham will sell Brentford – and then stay at the club
Matthew Benham will remain an ‘integral’ part of Brentford even if he sells the club in a £400million takeover deal.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the new owners of the club should include a clause in the contract that guarantees Benham continues to work with the club.
As reported by Sky News, Brentford owner Benham has hired Rothschild to oversee a takeover deal at the club.
He is set to consider offers that value the London club at around £400million as he looks to sell his majority stake.
Benham initially took over Brentford in 2007 and implemented a data-driven model at the club that helps to guide their transfer business and the overall running of the club.
Matthew Benham expected to stay at Brentford beyond £400m takeover
Maguire revealed that under Benham’s model, Brentford have made more profit in two seasons than Manchester United have during the entirety of the Premier League.
“I don’t think that Matthew Benham will leave Brentford if the club is sold,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“There will still be a relationship between him, his company and the club going forward.
“If I was a prospective owner I’d want that written in a contract because his knowledge, his deep understanding and the superb executive team he has put together understand the industry.

“Because of that, Brentford have made more profit in two seasons than Manchester United have in their 31 in the Premier League to date.
“I can understand him wanting to take a backseat in terms of the day-to-day running of the club but he will still be integral.“
